The Elementary Physical Education Program at Stella Niagara includes a variety of activities, games, and modified sports.
Instruction for primary students (grades Montessori -2) focuses on the acquisition and development of gross and fine motor skills. Basic loco-motor skills such as using a variety of ways to move safely in space with others. Throwing, catching, kicking, and striking are emphasized to teach the fine motor skills. Developing social skills in a safe learning environment is also emphasized. In addition, sport-related drills and low-organized games provide opportunities for children to begin to use basic skills during activities.
Instruction for intermediate students (grades 3-5) focuses on transferring basic skills into sport-related drills, games, and modified sports. Emphasis is placed on working safely with others in both competitive (sports) and cooperative ('project adventure'-based group initiative) activities.
The Middle School Physical Education Program at Stella Niagara offers students (grades 6-8) lifelong activities that enhance a child's physical, social, intellectual, and emotional maturity. Active participation in movement, sports, and recreational activities aims to instill a sense of accomplishment and appreciation of physical activity to help children become fit for life.
